Introduction
On March 8, the International Women's Day, we are presenting an hour of empowerment, with presentation by accomplished scholars and sharing by business leaders on diversity and gender equity in society and in the workplace.
In partnership with our student-led organization LEAP, the webinar is part of the University’s 30th Anniversary programs to promote diversity and inclusion in the hope of inspiring and preparing young women to face invisible barriers in the workplace.

- Perspectives on glass ceilings in the workplace from women in leadership
- Ways to overcome diversity, equity and/or inclusion related issues when one comes to them
- Insights on building a more inclusive, diverse and equal community

- Prof. Emily NASON
Director of Undergraduate Recruitment & Admissions, HKUST
Prof. NASON is the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions at HKUST, responsible for furthering the University’s strategic objective to be a University of choice for talents, by proactively attracting and recruiting student talents of varied excellence to HKUST. She received her PhD in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior from UCLA and joined HKUST in 2005 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, where she also obtained her BBA degree. Prof. NASON is well experienced in undergraduate education and has taken up various program leadership roles within the Business School and served on multiple university and external committees over the past 10 years. A passionate educator, Prof. NASON believes the most important aspects in youth education are character building, instilling a passion in lifelong learning, and making positive impacts.
- Prof. Jing ZHU
Associate Professor, College of Business (Nanyang Business School) in the Division of Leadership, Management & Organisation, Nanyang Technological University
Prof. ZHU studies theoretically driven behavior changes and development of individuals during work-related transitions with a temporal perspective and diversity issues in teams. Her work has appeared in top management journals including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Management. She has served or is serving on the editorial board of Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, and the Academy of Management Review Special Theory Forum on “Diversity at a Critical Juncture: New Theories for a Complex Phenomenon”. She has received a number of awards in research including the International Human Resource Management Scholarly Research Award and the Scholarly Achievement Award of the Human Resources Division, the Best Paper award of the Conflict Management Division, and the Best Symposium of the Year award of the Careers Division of the Academy of Management, finalist of the Academy of Management Journal’s Best Paper award, Citations of Excellence Award from Emerald Group Publishing, and Best Reviewer Award from Academy of Management Journal. Prior to joining NBS, she was an assistant then associate professor of management HKUST.
- Prof. Betty LIN
Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Education, HKUST
Prof. LIN is an Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Education and Associate Director of Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management at HKUST. She mentors several startup companies and is a Board of Director for 3 companies with core competence in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Her achievements includes winning Teaching Excellence Award from HKUST, Best Country Manager and Top Consultant during earlier phases of her career.
- Ms. Irene TSE
MBA Alumna, Head of Business Banking, HSBC China
Irene TSE is recently appointed as Head of Business Banking, HSBC China in March 2022. Moving into a new page of her career, Irene brings with her more than 20 years of banking experience and distinguished leadership track record in driving strategies and business growth. In her latest role as Managing Director Business Banking, HSBC Hong Kong, Irene is accountable for a sizable customer portfolio with nearly 300k SMEs. Under Irene’s leadership in the past three years, she has led the teams of over 500 staff in Hong Kong and Contact Centre in mainland China to sail through various challenges and has successfully turned around a shrinking business to get back to the growth trajectory. Irene holds an MBA from HKUST. Nurturing a high-drive personal nature, Irene experiences a healthy and active lifestyle, including trail running and ultramarathon. The energy powering her life is equally in her aspirations towards the professional future as a passionate woman leader in the financial industry.
- Ms. Becky TAM
BSc Alumna, General Manager, Digital Asset Management, OneDegree
Becky TAM is the General Manager – Digital Asset Insurance of OneDegree Hong Kong Limited, a new generation of InsurTech company that leverages technology and innovation to make insurance accessible and easy. As a key team member of the pioneering insurance startup, she takes charge of the digital asset insurance product strategy and development. Prior to joining OneDegree, Becky was the Asia Risk Director of Sun Life Financial heading up the Enterprise Risk Management division, and the Operational Risk Vice President of Swiss Re Asia. Her earlier experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Assurance division for Financial Service Sector. Becky is currently a member of the Environment and Conservation Fund Investment Committee, and previously served on the LWU Investment Sub-committee. She is also a HKICPA member and CFA Charterholder. She holds a Master’s Degree in Political Economy from CUHK and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from HKUST.
Ms. Nicole LUI (Student Moderator)
Nicole LUI is a second-year student in the World Bachelor in Business program. With her experience studying abroad and taking part in various initiatives like LEAP, she is deeply concerned with issues of gender equality and diversity.
